Project Overview
To prepare for growth in the City of Kirkland, the Totem Lake Connector Bridge was constructed in 2023 to provide alternative transportation options to this urban area. This 795-foot multi-use bicycle and pedestrian bridge spans the intersection of NE 124th St and Totem Lake Boulevard NE, safely separating the trail from traffic in the Totem Lake Neighborhood. Major construction included working in close proximity to existing utilities, installing an illumination system, working around arterial streets and traffic control, and constructing the bridge over the road and wetlands.
Transcon-specific scope of work
Transcon installed the entire lighting system for the Totem Lake Connector bridge and pathways. This included handrail lighting, glass strip lighting, light poles on the bridge and path leading up to the bridge, under deck street lighting, and LED accent floodlights. The infrastructure included conduits in the bridge columns, as well as conduits and junction boxes in the bridge curb and ground. A new service cabinet was provided and installed. The LED floodlights allow the City of Kirkland to run seasonal lighting programs for color themes such as holidays, pride, and Seahawks. Fiber optic work was completed to allow the City of Kirkland to control the lighting remotely.
